Ballet

Ballet classes are designed to explore the foundational elements and techniques of ballet and progress to advanced levels of classical ballet training.

Tap

Tap classes begin with an introduction to the basic tap dance techniques and progress to advanced tap.

Modern Dance

Modern Dance begins with foundational studies of human movement as an art form with focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination.  A variety of modern and contemporary dance forms are explored including an overview of world dance forms.

Jazz

Jazz classes begin with an introduction to American Jazz dance styles and techniques and advances to a variety of Jazz styles including contemporary, lyric, and classical.

History of Dance

History of Dance is designed to study the basic elements, principles, processes, and inherent qualities of dance from early forms to popular modern styles.  Students will explore a broad range of methods and dance styles and will conduct critical analyses of the creative processes involved in each dance style.  They will gain a thorough understanding of connections between society and dance in order to better understand dance origins and the evolution of dance from classic forms to commercial dance today.

Improvisation/Composition/Choreography

Students will explore the rhythmic and spatial elements that go into designing dance movements and use improvisation as a tool for this exploration.  Students will also expand their choreography skills through a focus on small group work.  Short works of 2 of more dancers will be created and performed.

Language of Dance

An introductory course to the language of dance from its origins to modern and commercial dance. 

Students will study the language and learn to speak the language of various dance styles and the technical terms associated with dance styles and particular dance movements.

Musical Theatre Dance

An introduction to dance styles from the Renaissance to the present-day including dances of the folk, court, social, and theatrical traditions, with focus on their adaptation to performance and theatre.  Particular attention will be placed upon dance forms trending in modern Broadway musical theatre.

Commercial Dance

Designed to prepare students for the industry of dance.  Students will learn dance trends in film, marketing, theatre, and other commercial forms that use dance and movement.

Anatomy & Kinesiology

Students will study the science of movement in the human body as it relates to dance.  Topics include the musculoskeletal system, the mechanism of muscular contraction, and developmental anatomy.  Dancers learn to visualize, interpret, and document their movements as they gain a better understanding of how the body moves.

Pilates/Strength Training

Designed to improve flexibility, build strength, and develop control and endurance in the entire body through a variety of exercises and techniques.  Emphasis is placed on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and coordination and balance.  The core focuses on the abdominal muscles, low back, and hips for strengthening and better dance control.

Performing Company

The Company focuses on intense study and rehearsal.  Students explore the dance experience and the elements needed for concert dance performance.  This course provides an atmosphere in which students are nurtured and stimulated in their quest for artistic achievement, technical mastery, and scholarly excellence.  Dance styles of all types are explored in the company with many opportunities for performance each year.  Ensemble work and production are core ingredients in the study. 

Dance Health

A class designed to focus on the health of the dancer.  Topics covered included hygiene, injury prevention, injury treatment, stress management, sports nutrition, eating disorders, and athletic performance.

Entertainment Career Prep

An examination of issues that are important to the personal and professional career of a dancer. Topics include resume and image development, auditioning strategies, and sources for job opportunities.

Introduction to Theatrical Design

An introductory class to the world of stage and theatrical design.  Elements of study include scenery, costuming, lighting, projections, and properties.  Students will gain a basic understanding of the design process behind on stage performing.

Stage Production Management

A course designed to give students the background and skills necessary to function as an effective organizational manager throughout an on-stage production.  Topics include the production process, rehearsal and performance procedures, auditions, communication, and organization.
